Follow Our Mid-Week Make-Up Do's And Don'ts

We are all about casual glam at YK Daily, casual glam fashion, interiors and make-up. So we have decided to lay out below our do's and don'ts to casual glam mid-week make-up.

A QUICK NOTE: As much as make-up can be a girl's best friend, it may not be the healthiest thing to slather all over our faces on a daily basis. In fact, wearing too much make-up can actually expose the skin to a considerable amount of chemicals and toxins. The chemicals found in lipsticks, eye pencils, and mascara, could actually cause serious health problems.

Therefore the minimum make-up you can apply throughout the week the better, in our opinion. However, when you do decide to apply and won't to opt for a casual glam look, here are our make-up tips to keep you looking naturally gorgeous and ready to go.

Do Opt Liquid Foundation

When it comes to getting natural-looking foundation, pretty much every single pro shares the same key advice - less is always more. After all, it’s easier to build onto coverage rather than take away from what you’ve already applied.

Makeup artists agree that using a damp sponge is the best way to minimise cakiness. Tapping a damp sponge, such as the Beautyblender, all over your face will even out the coverage and diffuse the product. One of the easiest ways to get a flawless and natural application of foundation is to choose a liquid formula instead of a cream or a powder.

Instead of applying highlighter overtop of foundation, apply a skin oil or liquid highlighter on the cheekbones, in the center of the forehead and down the bridge of the nose before putting on foundation. This will make your glow appear from the inside out.

Do Go Easy On The Mascara

To avoid the overdone eye makeup look, roll the wand as you apply the mascara from base to tip. This will separate your lashes as it lengthens.

Don't Do Fake Lashes

Now don't get us wrong— we love all things lash-related —but save the faux lashes for a super glam event or occasion.

Don't OD On Dark Eye Make-Up

The last place you need to get heavy-handed is the eyes, especially mid-week. Opt for a sleek and sexy understated eye with definition to bring out the natural beauty.

A thin line of taupe eyeshadow and an itsy-bitsy line of black liner is the ideal answer to a mid-week natural makeup look. This look will make eyes appear perky and awake, a handy makeup trick to have on hand around Thursday or Friday. Try not to go up to the brow line with dark eye makeup, it might seem over-the-top.

Do Add Polish With A Little (Faux!) Liner

Eyeliner itself isn't always necessary. A clean liner look can be just as easily achieved by spraying a shadow brush with water and dipping it into a black eyeshadow. That way, you can get the control of a liner while keeping the flattering, natural shade of your favourite eyeshadow. For a look like Emma Watson's, just be sure to use a thin brush!

Don't Do The Frosted Or (Gasp!) Glittery Lip Thing

There are too many pretty pinks and nude lipsticks out there to go the frosted, chalky route. This kind of lip colour does nothing but wash out your face, and it can look a little young if the rest of your face is simple. Jessica Biel usually sports a downright dreamy nudish-pink lip colour, it'll subtly perk up your entire face.

You could also opt for Glossier's Bubblewrap eye + lip plumping cream. Bubblewrap makes eyes and lips look fresher, smoother, and more hydrated. Made with a combination of natural hydrators such as Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane, and Avocado Oil, plus antioxidant-rich Blueberry Extract. It's vegan too!

Do Master The Pretty Faux-Glow Make-Up Look

Exude total take-charge vibes. The key to making bronzer look natural is blending into your hairline and down to your décolleté. Another sneaky trick is to apply a matte bronzer with a large makeup brush, for a polished, mid-week finish.

Don't Fixate On Embellishing Eyebrows

To create a natural defined micro bladed look with ease try out this Brow Microfilling Pen by Benefit. Creating the illusion of natural brow hair with 3 ultra-fine lines in a single stroke. It's designed to blend in with existing hairs, fill in gaps and make brows appear naturally where before there were none.

Don't forget to confront your face by prepping your skin, cleanse, tone and moisturise. This ritual of cleansing and hydrating consistently mid-week is the key to a natural glow, not only will it give you a dewy base throughout the week, but it will impact your skin at the weekend.
